Screened by Pohutukawa is a residential holiday project designed by architect Evan Mayo of Architecture Bureau. Displaying a contemporary architecture in contrast with the old beach cottage that used to be enjoyed by the family, the new holiday house was built when the owners decided they needed a more flexible vacation home that would incorporate the needs of a modern family. Located in Mt Maunganui, New Zealand, the house situated on a private secluded property displays a beautiful Pohutukawa tree at the entrance. The interior spaces were built around the central idea of having a one bedroom holiday home. This plan turned into a larger one when the inhabitants decided to build three additional bedrooms for family and guests. All the living and private spaces occupy 135 square meters, with the master bedroom and living room capturing panoramas of the Pacific Ocean. A covered outdoor living area links the new holiday home to the old cottage, expanding the outdoor entertaining spaces and allowing friends and family to benefit from fresh air and a healthy lifestyle.
