Sustainable PET Felt Chair: Pod by Benjamin Hubert [Video]

Benjamin Hubert‘s Pod Chair expresses the need for private relaxation – surrounded by a protective shell that cuddles you in a soft yet sturdy embrace. The British designer created this type of chair for Netherlands-based modern furniture company De Vorm. The felt used in shaping the chairs is created from recycled PET bottles, pressed into the mould. The chair’s shell is the largest object created by using pressed PET felt technology. Production includes cutting the material and stacking it on its wood base, while the finishing touches bring the chair’s design to a modern outcome. Constructed as a sustainable alternative to large upholstered furniture, the Pod Chair can be easily recycled as it does not contain a mix of glue, wood, textile, etc. Its contemporary shape and protective design can be successfully displayed in residential home, offices, commercial buildings or hospitality establishments.
